Product of the Week: Rich and Unique Natural Fiber and Llama Wool Pillows

Product of the Week Rich and Unique Natural Fiber and Llama Wool Pillows
On a recent shopping excursion to Buenos Aires, we came across these beautiful and simple products made of 100% natural fibers, specifically pillows and throws. The textiles and designs are inspired by the Argentine culture and as you will see in the pictures below, this results in some pretty unique patterns and rich, bold colors.

These products bring together the materials and techniques of the indigeonous people of Argentina with the style and sophistication of designers in Buenos Aires, and are made with the notion in mind to improve Argentina's textile culture.

We carry three kinds of pillows including our "chaguar" fiber pillows, llama wool herringbone patterned pillows, and the very unique star shaped pillows. The chaguar pillows are made with natural chaguar fibers which are known for their rich natural colors and linen-like texture. They come in two sizes of 22"X12" and 18"x18."

The llama pillow is made with natural llama wool fibers, soft, rich and luxurious. The material is warm, light weight, wrinkle resistant, and durable! Comes in size 20" X 20."

Last, but not least, is our star pattern pillow. Made of rich herringbone weave of llama wool, the pillow comes in the shape of a star with a 20" diameter.

Check out the the rest of our pillow and throw collection here.

Made with love in Argentina and Peru, these one of a kind items will add a little color, texture, warmth and style to your home.

Product of the Week: The Classic BKF Chair

Product of the Week The Classic BKF Chair
The BKF chair, also known as the "Butterfly" chair, was born in 1938 in Buenos Aires where the Austral Group, comprised of the three architects Antonio Bonet Castellana, Juan Kurchan, and Jorge Ferrari Hardoy, developed the idea of an iron framed chair with a leather hanging as support. This was inspired by the wooden framed Tripolina chair (below, top right image), which was modernized for the home from campaign chairs used by British military troops in the late 1800's.

Once developed, the chair was presented in the First Hall of Decorative Artists of Buenos Aires and won first prize. It was then discovered by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which requested three BKF chairs to be showcased. One is currently in the MoMA, a second in Frank Lloyd Wright’s house, Fallingwater, and the third one has gone missing.

Since then, the BKF chair has become the
best known Argentine design product worldwide and is quite popular in the U.S. There's even a table variation of it, which can be seen above in the lower right corner. Mostly knock-offs of the iconic design and often collapsible, we see BFK chairs today in dorms and small apartments. While many knock-offs are available, ours is the classic, manufactured in Argentina by our authorized vendor. The BKF chair comes in either a chrome or black matte frame finish with a heavy duty vaquetta leather or hair on hide seat. Fabric seat covers are also available. Check out our collection here on our website along with our Tripolina chair and BFK "Butterfly" table, and let your home be a part of design history with this mid-century modern classic!

Product of the Week Alpaca Silver Elegant home decor accessories
Our alpaca silver products are some of our most distinct and beautiful home decor accessories. Alpaca silver, which is made of an alloy similar to that of sterling silver, offers the refined look of silver while it doesn't tarnish, stain or rust. This allows it to remain in superb condition over a period of time, making it the perfect material for our sleek, yet sturdy trays and boxes. Originally invented in Europe and known as "German Silver," this material has stood the test of time and pairs well with organic materials such as horn and bone.

Adorned with either horn or bone handles, our trays have a contemporary yet rustic look. They're a great addition to any room in the home, creating a bold statement with handsome lines and curves paired with the detailed carving of the bone and horn handles. Simple and elegant!

The alpaca silver and horn handcrafted dresser boxes are great to store jewelry or any other trinkets that need safe keeping. Choose from boxes that have hinged lids or opt for a loose lid model, both with a natural horn embedded design that adds a touch of sophistication and beauty.
